Removing Mold From Shower Grout at the Source
Central Jersey Grout & Tile Restoration removes mold and mildew from shower grout and caulk by grinding out contaminated joints and sanitizing with 220°F dry vapor steam, rather than masking it with bleach.
Included in every regrout and restoration
Why bleach keeps failing
Black spots in grout and caulk are surface mildew on top of growth rooted inside porous material. Bleach lightens what it touches, but it does not remove growth embedded in grout pores or living under a caulk bead. A few weeks later the spots return in the same places. Grout that stays black after cleaning has usually been colonized deep in the joint.
Our approach: remove, sanitize, seal
Contaminated caulk is cut out completely. Grout that is stained through is ground out. The exposed joints and surrounding tile are steam sanitized at 220°F, which kills mold on contact without harsh chemical fumes in a small bathroom. New grout and commercial silicone go into clean joints, and the grout is sealed or replaced with epoxy so moisture has far less to hold onto.
Keeping it from coming back
Ventilation matters as much as materials. Run the exhaust fan during and for a while after every shower, squeegee the walls, and leave the door or curtain open to dry. If your bathroom has no working fan, that is worth fixing. We restore grout and caulk; we do not do mold remediation inside walls, and if photos suggest growth behind the tile, we will recommend a licensed remediation professional.
What it costs
Mold removal is part of the scope of every regrout ($700 to $800 for a wet zone), every recaulk (from $350), and every full enclosure restoration ($1,400).
