What color sealing is
A grout colorant is a pigmented sealer that bonds into clean cement grout. It covers uneven staining, lets you change the color entirely, for example from dingy white to a crisp bright white or from tan to charcoal, and leaves a sealed surface that sheds water instead of soaking it up.
Preparation decides the result
Colorant only bonds to clean, dry, sound grout. Applied over soap residue or mildew, it lifts and peels. That is why we never color seal without first steam cleaning at 220°F and repairing any cracked or missing joints. Each joint is coated by hand and excess is wiped from the tile face so the tile edges stay sharp.
Choosing a color
Lighter grout makes small showers look larger but shows wear sooner. Mid grays hide everyday residue well. Darker tones give a modern, graphic look on white subway tile. Send us your photos and tell us the look you want, and we will recommend a shade that suits the tile and how the shower is used.
Where color sealing fits
Color sealing is one of the two finishing options in step three of our process. The other is epoxy grout, which is better for showers with heavy daily use or a history of mold. If your grout is sound and you mainly want color and protection, color sealing is the efficient choice.
